Sustainability-Focused Strategic Governance
Over the years, Novamobili has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to further reducing the environmental impact of our products and production processes. An important contribution for the wellbeing and future of us all, because sustainable management in the manufacturing of a quality product not only respects the planet’s resources, but also creates a lasting value and brings benefits to all those involved in the company’s activities, whether directly or indirectly, from customers to workers, right through to the end consumer. Our governance revolves around a core element — ethics — translating into environmentally responsible decisions and actions focused on protecting the health and safety of employees, suppliers and customers.
Embracing the "Made in Italy" brand as a key value
Novamobili firmly believes that anticipating the shift to a market concerned with greater transparency up and down the whole value chain is key to generating positive impacts from the earliest stages of the production process. It is no coincidence, then, that 91% of its suppliers are Italian. These figures reflect a strong emphasis on Italian Made, which is a hallmark of our design and products and the result of know-how from a supply chain that stands out for its excellence.
When it comes to local procurement, 41% of Novamobili suppliers are from the company’s home province of Treviso, further strengthening our connection with the local community. The main goal of these decisions is to support local businesses, promoting responsible management of the supply chain.
Certifications
Recognizing employee and environmental health and safety as a priority, we have adopted an integrated management system in our workplaces. The integrated system, according to standards UNI EN ISO 14001 and UNI ISO 45001, is the product of Novamobili’s commitment to maintaining the best possible conditions for all workers who operate in or on behalf of the company and to constantly assessing the impact that each activity carried out, whether directly or indirectly, might have on the environment. Novamobili furniture features panels that mostly have the international certification Carb2 (California Air Resources Board) Our decision to use FSC®-certified material for all our products made from wood and its derivative also ties in with our goal of continually improving our sustainable growth and our protection of the environment, using timber sourced from forests managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner to Forest Stewardship Council® standards. Protecting forests means protecting the environment we live in and conserving it for future generations. Email info@novamobili.it to ask whether the product you are interested in is FSC® certified. Certifying our information security procedures was another crucial step for Novamobili, recently earning us certification to UNI EN ISO/IEC 27001. This important milestone demonstrates the Group’s commitment to protecting the data of customers and partners alike, seeking compliance with one of the most recognized international information security standards. This certification ensures data confidentiality, integrity and access through a security management system that adapts to new threats, thus providing our stakeholders with greater transparency and peace of mind.
Commitment to circularity: Environmental and Raw Material Management
Novamobili is one of just 130 companies to receive the coveted Ecol Design Award, which attests to the tangible commitment that each company actions, by signing up to Recycla, for the virtuous and sustainable management of its industrial waste. The aim of the certification is to quantitatively measure the environmental performance achieved because it is only through reporting that we can monitor progress, put fine-tuning actions into place and pursue continuous improvement through the reduction of waste and carbon dioxide emissions, material recycling, and the reduced use of fossil fuels and water.
Sustainability performance is rated based on three indicators. For each, a total numerical value is calculated over the course of the year in question relating to the management of waste disposed of and managed through Recycla Spa.
61% OF WASTE SENT FOR RECYCLING
Creates a picture of the amount of waste that is sent to recycling facilities (such as material recycling and/or energy recovery) as a percentage of the total amount of waste disposed of.
67 TOE REDUCTION IN FOSSIL FUEL
Indicates the toe (tonnes of oil equivalent) that has not had to be produced thanks to the waste management of each company and resulting production of alternative fuel derived from the waste collected.
9.466 kg REUSED PACKAGING
Total kgs of packaging supplied to the customer by Recycla and used by the former during the year to dispose of its waste; packaging is reused as it is recovered by Recycla S.p.A. rather than being turned into waste.
Sustainable materials
Sustainable growth and implementation of an environmentally conscious approach are two of the challenges that Novamobili sets itself every day. This is why we have our own self-imposed rules in place to ensure the use of environmentally compatible materials and sustainable coating processes: Novamobili was one of the first companies to use water-based paints and, in line with its policy of continuous improvement, has switched to using organic water-based paints for most of its lacquered finishes. The use of organic water-based UV coatings results in an annual reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of around 8.5 tonnes, which is the equivalent of a car driving for approx. 73,000 km, namely around the world 1.8 times. We introduced a water-based lacquering system in 2002, which we have since taken to the next level in 2023 with the addition of organic ingredients for long-lasting and increasingly healthier finishes. The construction of our furniture involves the use of strictly eco-friendly panels made entirely from 100% recycled wood by means of a hi-tech and environmentally friendly industrial process that doesn’t involve felling trees. For us, product quality includes respect for the consumer’s health, which is why we use only non-toxic panels with near-zero formaldehyde emissions that are rated E1 according to European standard EN 13986
People: Heart and Engine of the Business
The health and safety of employees and their wellbeing through a healthy work-life balance are core goals for Novamobili. This is why we have chosen to invest in flexibility policies and adopt high safety standards that not only protect workers, but improve their productivity and satisfaction levels.
In addition to ensuring high standards of safety, we have boosted our financial efforts with an annual achievement bonus, which employees can convert into additional welfare benefits or welfare services with a contribution from the company, offering tangible support to families. Novamobili also demonstrates a strong focus on new generations, awarding scholarships to deserving children of employees, with a ceremony here at the company to strengthen their sense of belonging. We have an ethically run voluntary time bank, allowing employees to transfer their accumulated hours to colleagues in need, with the company topping up the amount with an extra 20%. Other noteworthy initiatives include the psychological support programme “Punto di Ascolto”, and a passing the baton scheme aimed at helping employees approaching retiring age ease into retirement by reducing their working hours and pairing them with new resources to ensure operational continuity. Lastly, we regularly have school students on work-and-study placements and traineeships for university students, allowing new generations to actively engage with the business world.
Battistella Company supports Local
We have strong ties to the local community: in addition to the obvious job opportunities created in the local region and supporting culture and education with scholarships, we promote a healthy lifestyle through our sports sponsorships, such as our longstanding partnership with the Nutribullet Treviso Basket team, which plays in Italy’s Serie A basketball league. Over the years, our “community” vision has extended to include initiatives that promote inclusivity. A case in point is our active support of ATL-Etica, an amateur sports club from our home region of Treviso, one of the first to be recognized as a third sector organization (TSO), a qualification that gives it access to public contracts and other instruments that help to promote the right to sport for all, regardless of age or financial situation. Through our sponsorship, we contribute to ATL-Etica’s projects, which aim to foster an inclusive, sustainable sport culture geared towards the wellbeing of all. These initiatives offer personal and professional growth opportunities for many individuals, including young people with disabilities or special needs. This collaboration strengthens our ties to our local community, underlining how sport can be a powerful tool for social inclusion.
Transparency and clear goals: Sustainability Report and Code of Ethics
Compiling a Sustainability Report has been a key strategic decision for Novamobili that is far more than just a matter of compliance. First and foremost, it is a powerful tool for building and strengthening the company’s reputation, demonstrating our transparency and commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. This has enabled us to boost confidence levels among customers, investors and employees, resulting in a competitive advantage and attracting new markets, especially when it comes to more ethically minded consumers. Internally speaking, the report’s compilation means we can measure and optimize our processes, improving efficiency and reducing costs. Lastly, our sustainability drive is a key factor in attracting and retaining talent, as professionals — especially the new generations — are increasingly in search of companies aligned with their own values. In line with our policy of transparency in all we do, we have also drawn up a Code of Ethics, a formal document that sets out the principles, values and rules of conduct that we expect everyone working within the organization to abide by: employees, managers, associates and, sometimes, even suppliers and partners. Essentially, it is a statement of the moral and professional standards that the company is committed to upholding.
To sum up, for Novamobili, the publication of a code of ethics has been an important step that turns our internal ideals into a public and verifiable commitment, strengthening our credibility and accountability.
